Dane Cook’s Vicious Circle
For The Naydoo’s inaugural entertainment review I decided to take on the every popular stand-up comic, Dane Cook. First off, I need to give you some insight to my previous experiences with Mr. Cook…
Yup – that about sums it up. I’ve never heard one friggin second from Dane Cook prior to watching his latest HBO special, Vicious Circle. Therefore, you are hearing a completely unbiased review from a hardcore stand-up comedy fan. Dane Cook’s latest comedic “effort” made me stare at the television in a way that only my wife knows…but not in the way I expected. I truly thought that I was going to fall in love with this guy’s material. I had been told by so many people that he was a genius! That I would lead a more fulfilled life if I only listened to his personal insights into life, love, and everything in-between.
Unfortunately, the look I gave the television was one of pure unadulterated annoyance. Much like my lovely wife, he had a way of making me feel like my IQ was getting sucked out of my head and mixed into the alcohol I was drinking to make him become more bearable to listen to. I can’t understand WHAT THE FUCK people see in this guy. He is redonculous! Vicious Circle sure lived up to it’s title…it was a vicious circle of me drinking myself into a stupor only to wake up to this repetitive, nonsensical, garbage…over, and over, and over again.
I tried to like it. I really did.
I forced myself to watch the entire fuckin thing in the hopes that it would somehow turn out to be saved by one freaking thing. My hopes definitely went unfulfilled. (Just like in bed…huh honey? What do you have to say now!?! That’s right…NOTHING! You don’t know I’m writing this…hahahaha)
Sure Vicious Circle had moments of brilliance. The occasional, “laugh so hard I accidently punch my wife in the face” lines are what I live for. But they were far and few between. Much less than the average weekly Comedy Central specials I watch in fact. The question then becomes, why is he so fuckin popular?
Apparently Dane Cook’s Retaliation comedy special is hilarious…but I’m not sure I can stomach another 2 hours of his limp-wristed, high pitched voice, overacted, under-delivering, gibberish! For Christ’s sake, the topics he uses for his “jokes” were made popular by such greats as Martin Lawrence, Damon Wayans, Carrot Top, and all of the other “quality” comics of the early 90’s. (Yes, I am being sarcastic – None of those 3 comics have any redeeming qualities.) In any case, I’m sure if you are already a Dane Cook junky then you will have a fan-fuckin-tastic time watching him baby talk for 2 hours. I for one couldn’t figure out What The Fuck else was making those 30,000+ in attendance to his show laugh so much. The Naydoo
